The Art of Quieting a Racing Mind: A Guide to Restful Sleep

Struggling with a Racing Mind at bedtime? Discover an Approach to achieving peaceful sleep through mindful dialogue with your thoughts. This practical guide offers a natural solution to nighttime anxiety, helping you transform your relationship with your mind and achieve the restful sleep you deserve. Read more

We have all been there - lying in bed, physically exhausted, yet Our Minds refuse to slow down. The moment our head hits the pillow, it begins: an endless parade of unfinished tasks, replayed conversations, and tomorrow's worries. This mental marathon can turn what should be a peaceful descent into sleep into an exhausting battle with our own thoughts.

A Racing Mind at bedtime isn't just an inconvenience – it is a serious impediment to our well-being. When this pattern becomes chronic, it creates a vicious cycle: poor sleep leads to increased stress, which in turn makes it harder to sleep. The physical and mental toll can be significant, affecting everything from our immune system to our emotional resilience. Perhaps most frustratingly, many of us reach a point where we feel we have lost control - Our Minds seem to have taken over, running wild with thoughts and concerns regardless of our desperate desire for rest.

I have recorded a Video that comes with a useful Handout to follow along -- Article continues below Video:

Here is a New Perspective: Start seeing Yourself and Your Mind as Partners. Let’s start with: “You” and “Your Mind are separate entities. Just as you have a body, you have a mind - but you are Not your mind. This distinction is crucial for developing a healthier relationship with your thoughts. Think of “Your Mind” as an enthusiastic puppy - full of energy and good intentions, but in need of gentle training and direction. This metaphor helps us approach our racing thoughts with Patience and Understanding rather than frustration.

The Solution: A Nightly Mind Dialogue: I am about to share a practical, though perhaps unconventional and weird, approach to addressing this challenge. It involves establishing a regular Conversation with your mind before bed. While it might sound unusual at first, this practice has proven remarkably effective. Here's how to implement the practice:

  1. Set Aside Pre-bed Time: Dedicate 10-15 minutes before bedtime for this exercise.

  2. Keep a Journal: Have a notebook ready to record thoughts and concerns.

  3. Approach it with Authenticity: Your mind will know if you are genuinely engaging.

The Bedtime Dialogue Protocol

Start your conversation with “Your Mind” (some people name their Minds; calling it "Mind" works perfectly well). Here's a basic Script for you to adapt:

Hello Mind;

It is Time for us to go to Bed; and get our Needed Restful Sleep.

When I am fully rested, I am capable of achieving a lot more for us. As you know I need  7 ½ Hours of Sleep a Night; and when I get them, I get a lot more done.

This is the time when you usually try to help me stay on top of all of my commitments and I really appreciate that.

You try to remind me of my shortcomings; my anxieties; things I did Not complete; Upcoming Meetings I have Not prepared for; Obligations I should Not forget; and I get it…

You are trying to protect me from looking foolish and making mistakes…

So, Let’s have a Chat…

I really want you to tell me what’s on Your Mind. I have a Journal with me so I can write down anything that is bothering you; any commitment I have failed to complete; or any reminders you are worried about.

I want to write them before we go to bed; and I promise you that I will prioritize them in the morning, so we are on top of all of them.

What worries come to your mind right now?

Do any Appointments come to mind that need any preparation from me?

Any Broken Agreements I need to clean up in the next few days or weeks?

Any Obligations I have failed to take seriously that you wish me to write down in the Journal?

What is Top of Mind for you that you need and want me to know or remember?

Thank you Mind!

I have written in our Journal all of your Suggestions and Insights -- I will prioritize them tomorrow.

Part of this Deal is that you promise to Stop Racing and Worrying since now we have a Plan.

It is important for you and me to have a Good Night Sleep, so we can tackle them in the morning. Are you good with that?

This approach is effective for several key reasons:

  1. Acknowledgment: Your mind feels heard and respected.

  2. Organization: Writing down concerns provides clarity and relief.

  3. Trust Building: Promising to address issues tomorrow helps your mind relax.

  4. Partnership: It transforms your relationship with your thoughts from adversarial to Collaborative

End your session with Affirmations that reinforce your partnership: "My mind and I work together in harmony to achieve Restful Sleep." "We release today's concerns, knowing we will handle them with Clarity and Courage tomorrow."

Remember these Fundamental Truths:

  • Your mind is meant to be your Ally, Not your adversary.

  • When you listen to your mind without judgment, it learns to communicate more Constructively

With consistent practice, this approach can transform your relationship with Sleep and with your own thoughts. The key is Patience and Persistence - like any meaningful change, it takes time to develop new patterns.

Here are some of my Final Thoughts: Quality Sleep isn't just about physical rest – it is about creating Mental Peace. By establishing this nightly dialogue, you are Not just addressing immediate sleep concerns; you are building a stronger, more collaborative relationship with your own mind. This investment in understanding and working with your mind, rather than fighting against it, can lead to profound improvements in both your nights and days. Remember: A peaceful mind isn't achieved through force, but through Partnership and Understanding. Start this practice tonight, and begin your journey toward more restful, rejuvenating sleep.

Affirmation: “I Release today's concerns, knowing tomorrow brings Fresh Energy and Clear Solutions.”

Download Your Mind: A Daily Ritual for Better Sleep and a Clearer Tomorrow

Racing thoughts keeping you Up at Night? Real Estate Success depends on Mental Clarity and a Good Night’s Sleep. Learn how to Download your Mind and Wake Up ready to tackle the day. Read more

Have you ever laid down To Sleep only to have your mind Start Racing? For many Real Estate Professionals, it is a common struggle. Your Brain, acting like your most loyal assistant, wants to remind you of all the commitments, Worries, and tasks that still need attention. Instead of drifting off to sleep, you find yourself replaying conversations, thinking of client follow-ups, and remembering the inspection report you haven’t reviewed.

What if, instead of trying to quiet your mind right away, you let it speak first? What if you gave it space to Download all its thoughts so that you could rest easy, knowing nothing will be forgotten? Enter the practice of “Downloading Your Mind” - a simple yet transformative exercise that allows you to empty out the Clutter of your Mind, Reduce Anxiety, and Sleep a little bit more peacefully.

Why Do Our Minds Race? At the end of a busy day, especially in high-pressure careers like Real Estate, our minds often spin because we carry a lot of Responsibility. We juggle numerous client meetings, deadlines, and important details that simply cannot slip through the cracks. When you lie down, your brain takes this quiet time to make sure you don’t forget anything important.

This racing mind isn’t the enemy – It is actually trying to help you. It is telling you, “Don’t forget about tomorrow’s listing presentation!” or, “Did you follow up with that client about their home inspection?” Your brain is doing its job of Protecting your commitments. But when left unchecked, these mental reminders can turn into many sleepless nights, and cause Stress.

The Solution: Downloading Your Mind

Here is where the practice of "Downloading Your Mind" comes in. Think of it as the opposite cousin of Meditation. Instead of silencing your mind, you’re giving it a platform to chirp, speak, and tell you all its concerns. The key is to Not engage with these thoughts right away - just listen and write them down. This process allows your mind to relax, knowing that these important details have been captured and will be handled the next day. Make sure this Practice is undertaken in Complete Silence and with No Distractions.

Step-by-Step Guide to Downloading Your Mind:

  1. Set Aside 10-15 Minutes Each Night: Make this a daily ritual. It doesn’t require a lot of time, but Consistency is important. Carve out a few minutes before bed to let your mind express itself.

  2. Grab a Notebook and Pen: Your mind is about to give you a stream of thoughts, and your job is simply to record them. Writing them down on paper keeps the process simple and disconnected from the distractions of digital devices.

  3. Start Listening to Your Mind: Don’t force your mind to quiet down. Instead, allow it to speak. It might bring up things like: "Don’t forget to prep for the CMA with Richard tomorrow."  or "Did you get the inspection report for 123 Mina Street?"  Write each of these down as they come to you. Don’t solve them yet - just get them on paper.

  4. Review Your Calendar: Take a quick look at your Calendar App to trigger any additional reminders. Maybe you have a closing next week, or perhaps there’s a follow-up email you haven’t sent yet. Your brain will chime in with important details as you review your schedule.

Let’s talk Triggers: Your Mind is amazing, it knows everything. As you place in front of it your Calendar or related tools, and you start scrolling slowly, it will trigger and start chirping at you related forgotten Actions; Worries; Needed Preparations; or related tasks that require your attention. If you let them float in your head, your mind will start obsessing over them; but if you write them down, you help your mind relax. You have given your mind the pacifier it needs to let go and calm down.

  5. Check Your Communication Apps: The same procedure should now be applied to your Text Messages, Phone App, and Emails. Remember you are Not reading every text message, every email, nor every call you made or received -- you are simply Scrolling slowly and gently through these Apps and listening to your mind. This is why it is important to do this exercise in complete silence, No Music, No TV, No Side Conversations. Your mind might remind you of a task you overlooked or a client you still need to respond to. Capture these reminders in your notebook.

  6. Fill Out 2-3 Pages of Thoughts: By the end of this exercise, you’ll likely have a full page or two of tasks, reminders, and things to address. The important thing is that they’re all captured in one place. Your mind no longer has to hold onto them because you’ve written them down.

  7. Trust That You’ll Handle It Tomorrow: After you’ve downloaded everything from your mind, you’ll notice something incredible: your brain starts to quiet down. By writing down your concerns and to-dos, your mind knows they won’t be forgotten. You can now rest assured that these issues will be addressed in the morning, allowing you to relax and sleep a bit more  peacefully.

  8. Thank you Mind: This one is weird for some, but it really works. When you are done downloading your mind, thank your Mind: “Thank you for helping me stay on top of my Commitments. These reminders are very helpful to me. Now that we have captured them, it is time for us to rest so we can be refreshed in the morning. We will have plenty of time to tackle all these tasks tomorrow, and our Family and Clients will be proud of us. Good Night!

The Benefits of Downloading Your Mind

This simple practice does more than just help you sleep better – it is a powerful Productivity Tool. When you wake up, you’ll have a clear list of what needs to be done, allowing you to start your day with Focus and Intention. This is especially valuable in a career like Real Estate, where forgetting a key detail can impact client relationships, deals, and your own peace of mind.

Not only does this nightly practice help Reduce Anxiety, but it also Sharpens your ability to prioritize and plan ahead. When you Download your Mind, you free up mental space to focus on bigger-picture thinking, creative problem-solving, and strategic decision-making.

PS: If you are in pursuit of a Comprehensive Real Estate Playbook you may want to consider the Upcoming Nov/Dec/Jan 3-Month Real Estate Training Boot-Camp. It is Not a program for the faint of hearts, but if a Successful Real Estate Career is what you seek and are ready to Give it your Best, this Boot-Camp may prove to be handsome investment.

The Cave You Fear to Enter: Revealing the Disciplined Path to Real Estate Success

The Tasks you Fear most in Real Estate are the Keys to your Success. Embrace the Challenge, Step Outside of your Comfort Zone, Build the Courage to Confront your Fears, Put together a Production Playbook, and uncover the opportunities you deserve. Read more

In the world of Real Estate, Success isn’t just about Knowing the Market, having the right connections, or even mastering the latest technologies. It is about consistently taking the actions that most agents avoid - the Uncomfortable, often Daunting Tasks that lead to Growth and Long-Term Accomplishments. Joseph Campbell once said, “The Cave you Fear to enter holds the Treasure you Seek,” and this couldn’t be more relevant to Real Estate Agents and Brokers today.

The Fear that Holds You Back -- Through my years of training and coaching in the real estate industry, I’ve observed a common thread among some Agents and Brokers: a tendency to Avoid the very activities that can propel their careers forward. Whether it is Prospecting, Phone Canvassing, Making Recruiting Calls, or Following Up with CRM Leads, these actions are often sidestepped, Not because agents don’t know they’re important, but because of underlying Fears, Hesitations, lack of Accountability, and let’s be honest Complacency.

Let’s break down some of the reasons Agents and Brokers avoid these Crucial Tasks:

  1. Fear of Facing the Truth: Many agents are afraid to confront the reality that they might Not be as Skilled or as Professional as they think they are. They worry that if they fully commit to Prospecting and still don’t see success, it might confirm their worst fears. This fear keeps them from stepping into the "cave," where they could truly discover their Potential.

  2. The Illusion of Tomorrow: This is a Big One! It’s all too easy to push action to the next day, with the hope that tomorrow will bring better circumstances, more confidence, or a clearer plan. But this habit of Procrastination becomes a cycle that prevents real progress. I tell my Boot-Camp Participants: “Progress beats Perfection every time - Keep Moving Forward, even if it’s Not Perfect…”

  3. The Reluctance to Do the Work: There’s a common desire among agents to find shortcuts or magic bullets - something that will make the process easier or quicker. But Real Estate Success isn’t about shortcuts; it’s about Consistent hard work. The treasure isn’t found on the surface; it’s buried deep within the Daily Grind of Prospecting and Follow-Up.

  4. Comfort and Complacency: Some agents become too comfortable where they are, which leads to Complacency. They’ve established a routine that feels safe, but that safety is deceptive. True growth happens Outside of the comfort zone; -- So, Yes we risk hearing “No” and accept that it is part of our job, realizing that working with people is both wonderful and at times disorienting.

  5. The What-Ifs: Agents often worry about the negative consequences of their actions - what if they’re rejected, what if they don’t secure the listing, what if they make a mistake? These "what-ifs" create a barrier that keeps them from entering the cave. But by avoiding these challenges, they also miss out on the rewards that come from Taking Risks and pushing forward.

  6. Lack of a Strategy Playbook: You’ve got to have a Playbook that you layer over your Calendar. Waking up in the morning hoping that the phone will ring and Not a Strategy. Hoping that Past Clients will call you with a Referral is Not one either. Consider shifting from an Order-Taking Mindset to a Pro-Active one.

Stepping into the Cave -- The cave that agents fear isn’t just a metaphor - it’s a real, tangible place where The Work of Prospecting, Engaging with potential clients, and Building Relationships takes place. It is Uncomfortable, it is Uncertain, and it is often where agents face the most resistance. But it’s also where the riches of success are hidden.

So how do you overcome these fears and step into the cave? Here are some insights:

  1. Shift Your Mindset: Start by reframing your fears. Instead of seeing Prospecting as a dreaded task, view it as an Opportunity to grow, learn, and improve. Every “No” you encounter is one step closer to a “Yes.” What if you are not quite adept at Prospecting? -- then take Training Classes or Ask your Broker for Solutions; Make the Decision to become a better Prospector then seek Solutions.

  2. Take Consistent Action: Success in real estate isn’t about doing something once and hoping for the best. It’s about showing up every day, ready to Take Action, even when it’s uncomfortable. For example, require yourself to have a minimum number of Real Estate Calls and Conversations every work day: 10 would be a good start.

  3. Build Accountability: Surround yourself with a Supportive Network - whether it’s a coach, a mentor, or a peer group. Accountability Partners can help push you when your own motivation falters and ensure you’re taking the steps needed to succeed.

  4. Consider Affirmations: Positive Self-Talk can mute the Negative Tape we all have that keeps warning us of failure or reminding us we are not good enough. An Affirmation such as: “I Confront my Fears and take Bold Actions; the Success I Seek is within my Reach.” Will not change your life instantly, but will send a signal to your mind that you have what it takes to Grow and Prosper.

The Treasure Awaits -- The Activities that Real Estate Agents and Brokers avoid are Not just tasks on a to-do list - they’re the very keys to unlocking success in this industry. By embracing the discomfort of Prospecting for New Busines, you don’t just find the value you seek - you become the Professional you were meant to be. Remember, the cave you fear to enter is the place where your success lies hidden. Take the step, face the fear, and discover the riches that await. Your future self will thank you for it.

If you are seeking a Comprehensive Real Estate Playbook you may want to consider the Upcoming Nov/Dec/Jan 3-Month Real Estate Training Boot-Camp. It is Not a program for the faint of hearts, but if a Successful Real Estate Career is what you seek and are ready to Pay your Dues, it may prove a handsome investment.

How Detailed Notes integrated in your CRM give you an Edge

In Real Estate, Success isn’t just about Conversations - It is about Documenting every detail. Master effective Note-Taking and CRM use to elevate your service from good to truly Great. Read more…

Being a Good Real Estate Agent will no longer be sufficient to thrive in this Industry, you MUST become a Great Real Estate Professional. Good Real Estate Agents are Great Conversationalist and Great Listeners. But Great Real Estate Professionals are Great Note-Takers as well; they summarize each Consultation/Conversation/Presentation and place said Notes in their CRM for future review, follow up, and “Next Action” Activities. They are smart and do NOT use their Minds as Information Storage, nor expect to recall every single detail or every single conversation they have with their clients.

You see, your Dentist does it; your Doctor Does it; your Pharmacist Does it; even your Regular Car Maintenance Service Shop does it as well -- they “Take Notes” after every visit. They basically document a little of what you told them, what they worked on, and when there should be a Follow Up. They also make sure they Date and Timestamp all their notes, so they can go back and see if there is a pattern, potential conflict, or future opportunities.

Keep these ideas in mind when taking Good Real Estate Notes:

Get a CRM: I can’t emphasize this enough. A proper Real Estate CRM like Wise Agent (and there are others) is integrated with your Calendar, your Note-Taking, your Activities, and each note you add is Date and Timestamped.

Names and Relationships: Write down the Names of people mentioned and their relationship to your client. This helps in building rapport and understanding the client's support system.

Client Motivation: Understand and document why your client wants to buy or sell. This insight allows you to tailor your approach and meet their needs effectively.

Addresses: Their Existing Property Address; their desired type of property and details; Neighborhood Amenities; and more importantly Lifestyle/Work needs and desires.

Special Dates and Milestones: Keep track of significant dates like anniversaries, birthdays, and planned events. Remembering these can impress clients and strengthen your relationship.

Financial Considerations: Note any financial concerns or constraints. This helps in setting realistic expectations and finding suitable solutions.

Major Objections: Record any objections raised and whether they were addressed successfully. This prepares you for future discussions and objections that might arise.

Potential Friction Points: Anticipate and document possible challenges. Proactively addressing these can prevent issues down the line.

Armed with these Notes you are now ready to put together a “Plan of Action” specific to this Client’s Needs. You also have a way to go back and defend any misunderstanding that may arise in future disagreements. But more significantly, these notes will play a Big Role in your Follow-Up and Referral Success.

Remember this Adage: “Actions Speak, but Documented Actions Last.”

Mid-Year Reset: Strategies to Recalibrate and Re-Ignite Your Real Estate Goals

Feeling the mid-year slump in your Real Estate Career? It’s time to Re-Ignite your Goals and Power through the rest of 2024 with renewed Energy and Focus! Read more…

As we hit the midway mark of 2024, it's time to Re-Ignite Our Goals and get back On Track. Real Estate can be a tough industry, and the summer months often bring a sense of lethargy. The heat, the distractions, and the sense of a long year already behind us can make us feel off our game. But what sets you apart as above-average professionals is your Mental Toughness and Resilience. Whether you've had a great first half or faced challenges, now is the time to recharge and push forward.

Reflect and Recalibrate: First, whatever feelings you are having are natural. It's normal to feel frustrated or burnt out a bit this time of the year. The Real Estate Industry has seen its fair share of News and Changes this year, and it's easy to let those external factors influence our mindset. However, it’s crucial to Recalibrate and Not let these feelings dictate your goals. We can't change the past six months, but we can fine-tune our approach for the next six.

Activity Creates Reality: Remember, Activity creates your Business Reality. Knowing what you want to achieve is only the beginning; Taking Action is what generates results. Decide today that you will control your actions. Focus on what you can control: your Prospecting, your Follow-Ups, and your Daily Routines. Don’t worry about the noise about the market, the news, or the economy - Focus on your actions.

--- Article continues following Video:

Consistent Prospecting: Consistency is key in Prospecting. The agents who regularly ask for business are the ones who succeed. It’s not about being the smartest or having the most information; it’s about constantly reaching out. Dust off your prospecting plan, get a coach or mentor, or join one of my Intensive Boot-Camps if you need a push. Whether you know what to do and need motivation or need help prioritizing your tasks, taking action on your Prospecting is vital.

Work the Plan: If you have a plan, Work It. Don't fixate on immediate results. It’s rare to get a listing from a single call. It often takes 10, 15, or even 20 calls to secure an appointment. Dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to generating new business. Call people you know, reach out on social media, or use a list provided by your brokerage. Afterwards, take a break to recharge.

Spend another 30 minutes on Follow-Up Calls. Just because someone hasn’t responded doesn’t mean they’re not interested. It’s Your Responsibility to follow up. Finally, spend 30 minutes working your sphere of influence and referrals. Engage with your community, Face to Face, whether through Market Reports, Open Houses, or attending events. Dedicate at least two hours a week to community activities.

Embrace Practical Intelligence: Your Mindset is your most Powerful Tool, and Practical Intelligence is crucial. Practical intelligence in Real Estate involves Knowing What to Say, Whom to say it to, When to say it, and How to say it for Maximum Effect. Dust off your Scripts and make them your own. Scripts are roadmaps to guide your conversations with different types of clients, whether they are expired listings, FSBOs, or hesitant buyers. Continuously tweak and refine your scripts to suit your style and needs.

As we move into the second half of the year, remember that your success is driven by your actions. Stay focused, stay consistent, and use practical intelligence to guide your interactions. Whether you are recalibrating your goals or pushing through the summer slump, know that you have The Resilience and Mental Toughness to achieve Greatness.

Stay Motivated and let’s make the rest of 2024 our best yet!

Define Happiness for Yourself then Take Responsibility for It!

Happiness is a Deliberate Act of Vigilance and Awareness. I argue that happiness should not be left for others to define in movies and dictionaries; I also contend that you have a Responsibility to write your own Definition for Happiness. Read more…

Happiness is not an esoteric state of being that is ephemeral and out of reach; it is a deliberate pursuit of bringing “The Good” to the reach of those around us. Happiness lives in Action not passivity; and does not have a Dollar amount attached to it. Happiness is a Multiplier and expands without needing to be divided into smaller portions; like the ancient Sanskrit quote says: “Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened.” -- Happiness never decreases by being shared.

Unfortunately, Happiness has “blockers” that are at times self-imposed; for example, the automatic scripts that run in our minds that tell us we are not good enough; not worthy of the rewards we seek for ourselves. Negative Self-Talk plagues all of us, and these automatic scripts play in a loop all day long sometimes without us having a say in the matter. We must realize we cannot stop these scripts per-se, but we can override them with Mantras and Affirmations; and this is where the “Action” part comes in - we have to make time daily to sit down and start creating new scripts that empower us; Self-Talk that nurtures the positive goodness in all of us.

Some Mantras and Affirmation examples below Graphic:

Create your own Definition for Happiness! Here’s mine: “Happiness: The State of being Fully Present in this moment with a sense of Purpose and Gratitude.”

Create your own Definition for Happiness! Here’s mine: “Happiness: The State of being Fully Present in this moment with a sense of Purpose and Gratitude.”

Here are a few examples of Positive Self-Talk Scripts that you may want to alter to sound like you and place them all around your life, so you are forced to interact with them:

  • “I Nurture my Spirit for ‘the Good’ Daily!”

  • “I am Grateful for my Parents and Friends!”

  • “I am Proud of myself for being a Hard-Worker!”

  • “I find Joy in the simple moments in life, like Walking.”

  • “I am Special and Unique; nobody else in the world is exactly like me.”

  • “I Choose Happiness, Peace, and Gratitude today.”

  • “I am of Value and have Purpose in this world.”

  • “I am Responsible for my Happiness; and I will Spread it freely!”

  • “I am Kind to others and to Myself.”

  • “Today, I Will take a moment to inhale Gratitude and exhale Fear!”

Positive Self-Talk will Not replace Negative Self-Talk overnight; you have to be vigilant day in and day out; make time daily to work on your Affirmations, and remember that ‘the negative’ finds a home in your mind faster than ‘the positive;’ you really have to nurture ‘the positive’ for quite a while for it to become comfortable in the halls of your mind.

Happiness is a Deliberate Act of Vigilance and Awareness. I argue that happiness should not be left for others to define in movies and dictionaries; I argue that you have a Responsibility to write your own Definition for Happiness. You may even borrow others’ versions of it, but make sure you shape it to sound like you, and it must feel right for who you are today. Allow me to share my Definition: “Happiness: The State of being Fully Present in this moment with a sense of Purpose and Gratitude.”

Let me end with these quotes, from Epictetus: “There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.” This second quote by Dennis Waitley resonates with me because at its heart is The Taking of Responsibility: “Happy people Plan Actions; they don’t plan results.”

Simple Breathing Meditation to Calm your Mind!

Learning to Meditate is not easy but oh so rewarding. You are teaching your Mind that you are in Control, as well as teaching it to sit for a moment, much like you would train a puppy. Our Minds require Discipline in order for them to provide us with Clarity; Let’s Reclaim Our Minds by Focusing on Our Meditative Breathing. Read more…

Fear is a powerful emotion. At times it can be a motivator to do better - but there are times when it causes dismay and angst. The more you feed Fear, the darker scenarios it creates. The Challenges you may be currently facing are not going to fade on their own, and we cannot let them push you towards Defeatism nor Resignation.

The best place to be in “the Now,” Right Now! The concept is simple: If you wish to think clearly start by “Being Here Now!” We can argue about the past, we can be fearful about the future, but the best actions are triggered when we are present to “the Now.” There are many ways to coax yourself to be present, in “the Right Here and the Right Now,” and one of them is Breathing Meditation. It is not complicated, and it can bring you great benefits - the biggest one is Taking Proactive Productive Action on the important endeavors of your life - and doing it with a clear calm mind

Here are the basic steps to “Simple Breathing Meditation” - adjust them to fit your personality and your environment - steps below Graphic:

Our Minds require Discipline in order for them to provide us with Clarity; Let’s Reclaim Our Minds by Focusing on Our Meditative Breathing.

“Our Minds require Discipline in order for them to provide us with Clarity; Let’s Reclaim Our Minds by Focusing on Our Meditative Breathing.”

  1. Find a quiet serene place - place your phone on silent and out of reach face down for the next few minutes.

  2. Sit on a Comfortable chair, sofa, or in the lotus position if so inclined. We are striving to hold our mind in a state of focused meditation for about 5 minutes by focusing it on our breathing - that’s it.

  3. Let your hands and arms find a comfortable place in your lap or legs - don’t strain. Take a moment to notice your body and relax any tension or discomfort in your body and do it gently without any pressure or jerky movements.

  4. We are going to focus and notice our breathing, NOT control our breathing. You want to “breath” normally; notice how your body reacts to your breathing. Notice the air flowing through your nostrils, your mouth, past your throat, into your chest and how your stomach expands slightly. You are simply noticing the flow of your breaths in and out – you are Not molding or shaping your breathing. You may find yourself halting your breathing when your mind wanders; that is fine - just say to yourself “mind wandering” and go back to noticing your breathing.

  5. Eyes: You decide what is most comfortable for you: either keep your eyes open, half open, or closed. So long as your eyes don’t wander around the room you are fine.

  6. Remember: this is not about controlling your breathing - it is about noticing your breathing and being in tune with your body while breathing. Some like to start this meditation by taking a Deep breath through the nose and then a long exhale to signify the beginning of the meditation; and after 5 minutes of meditation closing with a deep Breath and Long Exhale. You are not required to have such a ritual - you decide your beginning and your ending sequence.

  7. Breathing Meditation is about your Mind; it wishes to wander and focus on all sort of things - when you meditate you are forcing your mind to stay in tune with you and to calm your mind down; to let go of the fears and anxieties of the outside world and simply focus on your “breaths.”

  8. Your mind will wander and will start thinking about other things; it can’t help it. Don’t punish it; just notice that it is engaged in a thought and say to yourself: “I see that you went wandering - I understand; let us focus on our breathing.” Is it weird to talk to your mind? - Yes it is; but very normal.

  9. Many end their meditation by thanking their mind for remaining calm and cooperating during this meditation.

To Meditate is similar to training a puppy; you want to teach them to sit. So, to Meditate is to train your Mind to sit. It does not want to; it wants to run around and be distracted by everything. You are teaching your mind that there are times it needs to listen to you and just focus on the Moment -- This Moment “Right Now.”

When you lower your anxiety by Meditating, your challenges become ever so clear - and Solutions start emerging. How often should you meditate this way? Many recommend 1 to 2 times a day - especially in moments of high anxiety and stress. Remember this is Not escapism - this is a grounding of your mind so it can think clearly with you and for you.

Negotiating Against Yourself: A Major Challenge to Success in Real Estate!

Integrity is not simply keeping one’s word with our clients; Integrity is about keeping our Word with our Intentions. Call it Self-Integrity if you wish. You tell yourself that you will block 45 minutes of Follow Up Calls, and you know it is very important that you do it today; and you actually do it today! read more…

A Real Estate Career is not for the faint of hearts; it is a Challenging Pursuit, and one of the Major Obstacles to Achieving Success is “Negotiating Against Ourselves.” While most Real Estate Agents understand the importance of keeping their promises with their clients, they often struggle to Keep their Promises to themselves. This insidious absence of Self-Integrity in some, can have serious consequences and has derailed the Careers of Many.

When we Fail to keep our promises to Ourselves, our minds Negotiate againstOur Will,” and Excuses begin to take over. Our intentions start to wane, and we find ourselves unable to take the Necessary Actions to move forward. This is why it's vital to develop a strong sense of Self-Integrity and Commit to following through on the Promises we make to Ourselves.

When we Fail to Keep our Promises to Ourselves, Our Minds Negotiate Against “Our Will,” and Excuses Take Over like Weeds.

“When we Fail to Keep our Promises to Ourselves, Our Minds Negotiate Against “Our Will,” and Excuses Take Over like Weeds.”

One of the biggest challenges that Real Estate Agents face is the Fear of Rejection. Many Agents know what they Need To Do to become Successful Listing Agents, but they often find themselves looking for Alternatives to avoid confronting their fear. We know where the Homeowners actually live - yet we fail to Call them, Door-Knock them, or even Mail them. This can lead to a lack of action and ultimately, a failure to Get Listings.

To overcome this challenge, it's important to Take Action regardless of how we feel. The best actions are those that we take even when we don't feel like it. By infusing the philosophy of "Just Doing - No Over-Thinking" during part of our day, we can fulfill the Promised Goals we make to our Higher Selves and Achieve Success. It is important to remember that sometimes we may feel like taking action, and sometimes we won't. But by committing to Taking Action regardless of our feelings, we can Overcome our Fears and Achieve our goals.

If you want to thrive in Real Estate, it's crucial to Keep Your Promises to Yourself, Confront your Fears, and Take Action even when it's uncomfortable. By Adopting a Success Mindset and Committing to a course of action, you can Negotiate for Yourself to achieve your goals and build a Successful Career.

Here are a few Mantras and Affirmations to Help you in this endeavor:

  • “I am Committed to Keeping my Promises to Myself and Taking Action towards my Goals.”

  • “I Confront my Fears and Take Action even when it's Uncomfortable because I know that's the Path to Success.”

  • “I am Worthy of Success in Real Estate and I have The Skills and knowledge to achieve it.” -- Gratitude Thinking.

  • “I Infuse the Philosophy of "Just Doing - No Over-Thinking" into part of my Day to stay Focused and Motivated.”

  • “I Take Inspired Action towards my Goals and trust that the Universe supports my Success.”

Develop a Gratitude Mindset and Let Abundance Guide You

Real Estate Professionals are the type of Entrepreneurs whose business are “People;” many think they are in the Business of Houses, and they would be a tad off… a Gratitude Mindset goes a long way in building rich engagements on our communities; let’s find out what it means to develop a “Gratitude Mindset…”

Gratitude plays a big role in the life of Entrepreneurs and especially in Real Estate Professionals; your business is a “people business” and you cannot succeed by yourself sitting on island. You are connected to the Community, to your neighbors, and to all the people thinking about Moving, Selling, and/or Buying nearby. You are in the business of People Not Houses and therefore developing a Gratitude Mindset goes a long way to connecting you authentically locally.

What is Gratitude? The dictionary says: The state of being grateful. And Grateful is defined as: Appreciative of benefits received. So, what is a Gratitude Mindset? It is the state of living your life valuing the possessions you have, as well as the Achievements you have accomplished -- but it goes further than that; it is living your life noticing “The Good” that surrounds you and celebrating it regardless of you instigating or not.

Do not think it is easy to develop a Gratitude Mindset; especially when you are surrounded with “News” which really means terrible news about the world; and surrounded with some people who only see the horrible and terrible and have no time to celebrate the good. They look at you as being an Alien who does not understand what is truly going on in the world. When you say: “I am Grateful that the Plane is already at the gate and that the boarding process got all of us on the plane on time.” The naysayers would say: “Why are you grateful for this? That was their job in the first place; that’s what should have happened.” I choose to see boarding a plane as an act of Gratitude because it gets me to be with the people I am going to visit and work with.

A “Gratitude Mindset” is choosing to Live Life with a Commitment to Noticing “The Good” all around us and Celebrating it!

“A “Gratitude Mindset” is choosing to Live Life with a Commitment to Noticing “The Good” all around us and Celebrating it!”

How does a Gratitude Mindset manifest itself in one’s daily life? This is the beauty of this mindset; you get to choose. I say start by noticing those around you and catching them doing something Right. One of the things I do is to randomly call my friends on Social Media and chat about their life and what they are up to. When you give a friend a chance to articulate what is important in their life, they become more passionate about it; so simply listening to their dreams and validating their journey is an act of Gratitude.

Another way to nurture a Gratitude Mindset is to bring to the fore this hard question: “What difficulties and/or upsets have I caused in others?” This is Not an easy question to confront; but an important one. It will keep you grounded on your intention of being an Agent of the Good; and help you rectify any unintentional harm you may have triggered.

This is not an easy journey to embark on, and some will ridicule your commitment to have Gratitude flowering in your heart, but the journey is so worthwhile. You will ease your Stress; You will become more approachable; You will experience more Joy and become an instigator of Joy in the life of others; and you will get back more, even though you are not looking for any rewards. Let me end with this quote by Melody Beattie: “Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
